From the Atlantic Ocean, the Barrier Islands, Albemarle and Pimlico - the great Sounds (and their tributaries) of  Eastern North Carolina, through the Piedmont Region to the Great Smoky Mountains, North Carolina is a microcosm of the natural beauty, natural resources and historical mosaic of the United States of America. The first English child born in America, Virginia Dare, was born in Roanoke, NC, in 1587, but long before that, the Cherokee named these mountains Shaconage - Place of Blue Smoke.  Even on clear, sunny days, the haze colors glimpses of white-tailed deer in the famed Carolina laurel.  See Mount Mitchell, the tallest mountain in the eastern United States.

The Crystal Coast offers oystering in January, trout fishing in December; sportfishing in the nearby Gulf Stream where the big game is marlin; horseback riding white sandy beaches; off-shore diving on the sunken wrecks in the Graveyard of the Atlantic; Gulf Stream dives offer visibility of more than 100 feet and water temperatures of 80 degrees.  Water sports, abound all year all across North Carolina from sailing, motor boating, island explorations, kayaking, swimming, diving and fishing.  Mountain trails, hiking, mountain biking, fly-fishing, camping and climbing round out the short list of activities available for residents and visitors alike.

And it is not just the weather that is balmy and idyllic.  The business climate in North Carolina is warm and nurturing.  In Gross State Product (GSP), net business starts and job growth, North Carolina is in the top 10 in the United States.  Personal Income is 100% of the average US per capita income.  Ranked in the top 10 also in international exports, North Carolina is a leader in manufacturing and crafting for export.  In the top 10 in the US of manufacturing vitality, North Carolina's strong agriculture community raised this figure to #4 when farm jobs were included in the index.
